Extracurriculars at Zion

Zion is proud to offer many extracurriculars to our students, including sports and fine arts. Take a look at a list of our most popular extracurriculars below.

Sports Extracurriculars

In addition to our P.E. classes which occur twice a week, we offer after-school competitive sports:

  • Cross-country: Grades 3-8, Co-ed
  • Volleyball: Grades 3-8, Girls and Boys Team; Grades K-2, noncompetitive
  • Basketball: Grades 3-8, Girls and Boys Team; Grades K-2, noncompetitive
  • Track and Field: Grades 3-8, if eligible, for Spring CYO track & field meet

For all sports-related activities, including P.E., Zion teaches the following to its students to encourage good sportmanship through the introduction of sports and teamwork acitivites:

  • Respect: to display and embody the philosophy of good sportsmanship behavior.
  • Discipline: to push yourself to be and do your best on a daily basis.
  • Teamwork: to work together, share, compliment each other and achieve more as a team than by oneself.
  • Listening: to reinforce the importance of being a good listener by following rules and directions of games and applying what is heard from classmates, teachers and parent.
  • Faith: to understand that God gives us challenges every day so that we learn to never give up no matter how arduous the task.

Other After-School Programs

All Zion fine arts after school programs are held on-campus.

  • Study Hall/Extended Care: a place for students to do their homework after-school for $14.00/day. ($7 from 3-4:30pm, additional $7 from 4:30-6pm.)
  • Engineering FUNdamentals with LEGOS: Open to grades K-3. Students can learn how to design and build motorized machines, houses, pyramids, bridges, catapults, buildings and other constructions. Explore concepts in physics, mechanical and structural engineering, and architecture while playing with your favorite creations. Children will be given instruction, design challenges, and will compete appropriate to their ability. Program fee.
  • Academic Chess: Kids learn chess strategies, chess openings, solve chess diagrams and puzzles. A one hour chess class consists of 30 minutes of chess lessons and 30 minutes of playing time. Curriculum is designed to fit the needs of all levels. Continuing and new students are welcome. Program fee.
  • Music Lessons: Open to all grades, learning piano, guitar, guitar, voice, or flute. Program days and costs varies.
  • Yearbook Club: Open to grades 6-8, students help record and design a yearbook capturing wonderful memories at Zion!
  • Spring Musical: Students in grades 5-8 who are part of the stage cast or stage crew have rehearsals during winter and spring semesters.
